Sheepscombe is a small village nestling in a valley about 2 miles from Painswick. Although the population is small (about 800) the houses are scattered over a wide area. The richness of community life is reflected in the range of activities and resources we have, which include the village school, the Anglican Church, a Methodist Chapel, the Cricket Club, the Butchers’ Arms pub plus numerous clubs and societies. A sign of the strength of the community is the Village Hall which was recently modernised thanks largely to the hard work and fundraising efforts of villagers.
St John’s church offers a range of opportunities for regular worship, not just on a Sunday but also during the week. We try to provide other opportunities at certain times during the Church year, such as daily evening prayer through Lent. We give all who join us in worship a warm welcome and the opportunity for fellowship. The church and the school work closely together with teams taking weekly ‘Open the Book’ assemblies. The school comes to church for services they plan.
The Harvest Festival and the Christmas Nativity services are two of the joyful occasions for worship that the children bring to us all.
The growing local ministry team in the village is working to maintain and further develop the richness of our worship and to support Christian outreach and care in the community.
